BNY Mellon banks on Technology One
Enterprise business software solutions company TechnologyOne has won a contract to supply and install TechnologyOne Financials to Bank of New York (BNY) Mellon Australia. BNY Mellon Australia is a subsidiary of the multi-national financial services company, The Bank of New York Mellon.
Education and training authority the SACE Board of South Australia has selected Objective Corporation to provide an enterprise content management solution to improve business processes, enhance customer services and ensure compliance with record keeping standards.
National Australia Bank has selected Perth-based specialist treasury systems provider CCK Financial Solutions’s Guava Suite to be used within NAB’s Group Treasury, initially to handle its Structured Notes business.
Virgin Mobile Australia is deploying RightNow Technologies’ CRM solution to provide multi-channel customer service.
Energy retailer Perth Energy has selected Gentrack Velocity software. Perth Energy required a new billing and customer management system to manage its billing activities, transform customer services and streamline and automate integration with other market participants in preparation for market contestability.
New Zealand payment transaction company Paymark has implemented a new transactional data and reporting solution jointly deployed by Australian business intelligence provider Yellowfin and global enterprise software company Sybase. The Paymark deployment is the first under a new sales alliance between Sybase and Yellowfin under which the two companies have agreed to co-sell Sybase’s column-based database, Sybase IQ, with Yellowfin’s front-end BI presentation layer and interface.
Online travel agency Webjet has selected StrongMail Systems’ on-premise marketing and transactional email solution to replace its previous outsourced solution. In addition to event-triggered transactional emails confirming travel purchases and information requests, Webjet also relies on email to communicate new promotions and services.
Fleet tracking solutions company Imarda has announced a $US10 million deal with a major US freight services company to provide an advanced Telematics based solution. Imarda did not name its customer, but reports said it was Fedex Freight.

Symantec buys PC Tools
Global vendor Symantec has purchased Sydney-based security company PC Tools. Symantec said PC Tools would maintain separate operations within its consumer business unit, with PC Tools CEO Simon Clausen leading the team and reporting to Janice Chaffin, Symantec group president of consumer products.

Symantec likes Telstra’s vision
Security vendor Symantec has named Telstra as one of two winners of its 2008 Visionary Awards for Australia and New Zealand. The other organisation to pick up an award at Symantec’s annual Vision + ManageFusion customer event in Sydney was Auckland-based HealthAlliance.

IBM invests in University of Ballarat Technology Park
The University of Ballarat and IBM Australia will construct a new $10.8 million IT Services Centre at the University of Ballarat Technology Park. Professor David Battersby, vice-chancellor of the university, said the new development demonstrated the significance and maturity of the relationship between IBM and the university. IBM currently employs 817 people in Ballarat, half of whom are graduates or students of the university.

Survey shows spam is effective
Twenty-nine percent of internet users have purchased goods from spam emails, according to new research by security vendor Marshal. The most commonly purchased items include sexual enhancement pills, software, adult material and luxury items such as watches, jewellery and clothing. “The poll highlights an inconvenient truth,” said Marshal head technical consultant, Oscar Marquez. “Many of us often question ourselves, why is there so much spam? The answer is enough people are purchasing products from spam to make it a worthwhile and profitable endeavour for spammers.”

O’Brien follows the Sun
Sun Microsystems has promoted Gary O’Brien to the role of chief software technologist for Australia and New Zealand. Since joining Sun in 1999, O’Brien has held senior roles including ANZ regional software practice manager and Asia-Pacific business development manager for software solutions.
Web security vendor Websense has made three Sydney-based appointments: David Jablonski as director of product development, Arik Baratz as data loss protection solutions consultant, Asia Pacific, and Nicole Sanders as senior manager, technical support.
Former Oracle and SAP senior executive Leigh Warren, has joined the board of directors of utility billing and customer management software solution provider Gentrack.

Utimaco arrives down under
Data Security Company Utimaco has opened its first Australian office in Sydney to better support the company’s existing local customer base and extend its reseller network. Utimaco’s local partners are Lenovo and Sophos as resellers and global IT security solutions distributor Computerlinks. Heading up the Sydney operation is regional manager, Australia & New Zealand, Colin Lim.
Nasdaq-listed unified communications solutions provider ShoreTel has appointed Aria Technologies as a national distributor in Australia.
